Greencastle Community Centre is dusting off its disco ball and getting ready for a roller disco on Saturday, October 18, with everyone invited.

The centre’s sports hall will be transformed into a dynamic roller rink for the unique throwback event, which celebrates rollerskating, one of the most popular pursuits of the 1970s and 80s.

The roller disco is being held to raise vital funds that will be reinvested directly back into Greencastle Community Centre, ensuring it can continue operating as an essential resource and hub for the local community.

Manager Susan McAleer explains the thinking behind the planned retro evening of fun.

“For years, staff and service users have commented on how the sports hall would be absolutely perfect for a roller disco!" smiles Susan. “So now we have finally decided to turn the long-held wish into a reality.”

To ensure the disco is a success, the centre’s fundraising committee has enlisted the help of the experts at Kelly’s Mobile Roller Disco from Coleraine. They are bringing their complete setup, including skates and safety equipment, as well as a DJ, disco lighting and professional stewards.

The organisers say the evening promises to be a “genuinely different and unforgettable event for the entire family”, with every cent raised being reinvested directly back into the popular community centre.

The roller disco is taking place on Saturday, October 18. Tickets are €15 per person, with three time slots available – 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm – and all ages welcome. Price includes high-quality quad skates, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads and helmet.

Bookings are essential and can be made via the centre website at www.greencastlecentre.ie.

“Everyone is encouraged to come along, enjoy a great night, and help the centre meet its important fundraising goal,” Susan added.
