Buncrana added to their success of 2022, 2023 and 2024 at this year's SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards
Buncrana Tidy Towns cleaned up in the SuperValu Tidy Towns awards again – winning a Gold award and the county prize for the fourth year in a row!
A record 929 entries were made to this year’s Tidy Towns competition at the SuperValu TidyTowns awards ceremony at Croke Park in Dublin, with 41 of those entries coming from Donegal.
Buncrana scored 398 points from the Tidy Towns judges. There was just one point between Buncrana and Donegal’s second-place prizewinning town of Letterkenny, which also won a Gold Medal. Carrigart, third overall in the county, received the 2025 Tidy Towns Gaeltacht award and also scooped a Gold Medal with 392 points.
Both Buncrana’s and Letterkenny’s scores improved by 16 points from last year, while Carrigart rose by 17 points. Raphoe and Moville were also awarded a Gold medal after they improved by 15 points.
Silver Medals were also dished out to Glenties and Malin after they improved by 14 points. Donegal Town rounded out the medals for the county after it obtained a bronze medal.
Falcarragh won the Endeavour Award – a prize awarded to the entrant in each county that made the biggest percentage improvement on the previous year’s score. 2025 was the first time in 26 years that Cresslough entered the competition, where they received 249 points.

The national title. Ireland’s Tidiest Town this year went to Carrick-on-Shannon in Co Leitrim, which scored 400 points, only two more than Buncrana.
South Inishowen Fianna Fail Councillor Fionán Bradley congratulated Buncrana Tidy Towns volunteers on securing a 10th Gold medal in a row and for also “retaining our position as the tidiest town in Donegal. The Tidy Towns volunteers are out 365 days a year in all weather, and they do so much great work around the town. The national title is very soon coming to Buncrana.”
