Lifeline Inishowen urges those affected by domestic violence to reach out for help

Lifeline Inishowen volunteers are urging anyone affected by domestic violence to come forward and reach out for help, which is available.

Domestic violence remains a critical issue affecting many individuals and families here in Inishowen.

In light of recent statistics showing an increase in reported cases, Lifeline Inishowen says it remains committed to raising more awareness and providing much-needed support to those affected.

With its headquarters in Carn, Lifeline is the only entirely Inishowen-based domestic violence support charity, and a spokesperson says its goal is “to encourage victims to speak out, seek help, and understand that they are not alone.”

Lifeline is hosting a coffee morning at the Wesley Hall, Carndonagh on Friday, November 28 at 11am, with everyone invited to come along for more information.

The Carndonagh event – one of a number planned – will take place three days after the annual International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which falls on Tuesday, November 25.

“We would be delighted if you could come along, chat to staff and discuss our services and our exciting plans for the future; we will continue to strive to empower women and foster a healthy community free from violence,” a spokesperson explained.

Lifeline offers a range of services, including confidential counselling (adult and children), a support line, advocacy service and training programmes, to name just a few.

The charity says it “passionately campaigns and lobbies for support for Inishowen”.

Community involvement is a powerful tool in combating domestic violence, as it fosters awareness, provides support, and encourages collective action. By working together, communities can create a safer environment for everyone, ultimately reducing the incidence of domestic violence.

“We urge the communities of Inishowen to participate in upcoming events that we have planned, aimed at raising awareness about domestic violence. Together, we can create a safer environment for everyone in Inishowen,” the Lifeline spokesperson added.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out for help. Contact Lifeline’s Helpline for confidential advice on 07493 73232 or 086 0650353.
