A tight-knit and generous group of ladies in Greencastle!
Greencastle Community Centre’s knitting group, which began its journey just over a year ago, continues to make a significant positive impact across the community.
The group, which started in September 2024 with a Team Hope Knitting Drive funded by the Donegal Volunteer Centre, has gone from strength to strength, with members turning their passion into purpose-driven community support.
The volunteers celebrated the Christmas season by providing a collection of beautifully knitted Christmas hats and crocheted decorations to Ann’s Children’s Care Home.
They also generously donated 115 knitted baby hats and 11 comfort blankets to help keep Letterkenny University Hospital’s smallest patients warm.
This festive donation is just the latest in a series of dedicated community projects throughout the year, including comfort blankets and fidget blankets for dementia patients and the elderly, emotional support knitted chickens for adults with additional needs and knitted dolls with matching hats for the Children's Ward and community play therapy.

"The mission of the group is to translate simple crafts into genuine comfort for those who need it most," explains Greencastle Community Centre manager Susan McAleer.
"We have seen firsthand how a handmade item can bring warmth and a sense of care to the recipients.”
The group is now actively seeking new community projects to support in the coming year and welcomes contact from organisations that assist children, vulnerable adults, or older people, who would benefit from their handmade items.
