Members of Danny McColgan's family and friends presenting €4,000 to Friends of Letterkenny Hospital. The sum, one of a number donated to charity, was raised after a Ploughing Day in memory of Danny.
More than €8,000 and much-needed equipment for patients have been charitably donated in loving memory of an Inishowen man who died earlier this year.
Danny McColgan, from Culkeeny in Malin, passed away in March after a short illness. He was 68-years-old.
Members of the McColgan family and friends recently presented a cheque for €4,000 to the Friends of Letterkenny Hospital and €3,000 to the Donegal Hospice, while a previous donation of €1,400 had already been made to the Hospice following Danny's wake.
The big-hearted family has also donated some expensive items to the Oncology Ward at Letterkenny Hospital to ensure that stays there are more comfortable for patients and their families and friends going forward.
Among the items donated were ten recliner chairs, heat pads, a small fridge, a microwave and cups for the relatives’ room, along with some hampers.

The money was raised following a special Ploughing Day in memory of Danny (pictured above with his beloved David Brown 995 4-wheel drive tractor).
The McColgan family wishes to thank everyone for their kindness and generosity. The donations will help provide some comfort to other families in their time of need.

A father-of-six and a devoted granddad, Danny had a great interest in vintage tractors – especially Davy Browns – and the charity ploughing match, held in Gleneely in May, was a fitting tribute to him.
He was also a lifelong supporter of the Donegal GAA team and the Malin GAA club, having been inducted into the Malin GAA Hall of Fame in 2017, following decades of dedicated service.
The family decided to support the Oncology Ward at Letterkenny and the Donegal Hospice because that’s where Danny was cared for during his illness.
“We also wished to support the Friends of Letterkenny Hospital to ensure that the money raised is used for the benefit of patients,” a spokesperson for the McColgan family added.
