Crana College students pull all-nighter for good cause

Transition year students at Crana College pulled an all-nighter

It was a rough but fulfilling night for Crana College’s Transition Year students last Thursday week as they forwent the usual warmth, comfort and familiarity of their bedrooms in favour of the hard wood-panelled gym floor in the school.

The cohort’s abandonment of their usual sleeping arrangements was not an incredible, simultaneous, spur of the moment decision - in fact the night was organised by the school’s TY coordinator Ms Clare Bradley in aid of the nationwide homeless charity, Focus Ireland whose main goal is to assist homeless people across the island.

Every student who took part was required to pay a €5 donation towards the charity on top of the proceeds donated to the event via its iDonate page which is still active, these proceeds added up to a donation of €842.

This sleep-out has proven to be yet another successful Transition Year event for Crana College this year as the school continues to improve and maintain the already strong reputation it has for its Transition Year programme.

The success of the sleep-out follows a number of students being selected to attend the European Youth parliament and success in cross school initiatives such as the Young Changemakers and Shared Education for Positive Innovation (SEPI) programmes.

The students and supervising teachers stayed in the school 9pm until 7:30am the following in a night that fulfilled the school’s values of community, care, respect and equality.

And no, the students didn’t go to class the following day. Instead, they went home and slept in their own beds until the afternoon.
