Discolouration of water in Buncrana ‘still under investigation’

Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland

The discoloured water supply in Buncrana is “still under investigation”.

Reports of a tainted water supply were made yesterday evening, but the water remains contaminated this morning.

According to Uisce Éireann: “We are investigating reports of discolouration affecting Carraig Fern, Ballymagan, Buncrana and surrounding areas and are working on resolution.”

Local Councillor Joy Beard has contacted Uisce Éireann and has been helping locals access a clean water supply at the Fire Station. However, she has warned that all the supply still needs to be boiled before human consumption.

I have contacted Uisce Éireann again this morning, and the discolouration of the water supply is still under investigation,” she said. “Someone who works for Uisce Éireann has just pulled up and said he reckons it may be Monday, which I can’t believe to be honest, that people would be without water in this day and age.

“In the meantime, as a precautionary measure, I would strongly advise residents not to drink the water or use it for cooking, brushing teeth, or food preparation until the cause has been identified and we receive further clarification.

“I will continue to engage with Uisce Éireann throughout today and will share updates as soon as they are available.”
