Moville couple Martha and John Steele present a cheque for €4,031 to Kathleen Smyth and Gertie Monagle, of the Inishowen Hospice.

A kind-hearted Moville husband and wife have donated more than €8,000 to local charitable organisations.

Martha and John Steele have helped raise tens of thousands of euro for good causes over the past 25 years by lighting up their home for Christmas – and this year they have raised one of their largest ever totals.

The couple made donations of €4,031 each to the Inishowen Hospice and the Moville Tidy Towns, for an impressive total of €8,062, their second-largest amount in a single year.

John and Martha have warmly praised all those who contributed to their annual Christmas fundraiser.

“We are very grateful to all the people who viewed our Christmas lights display and to all the people who bought and sold tickets and made very generous donations.”

“We put a lot of time and effort into the whole thing, but it would not have been a success without the generosity of a lot of people, both near and far.”

The Steeles have explained why they’re more than happy to support this year’s chosen good causes.

“It is a pleasure to support the Inishowen Hospice because it helps so many people in Inishowen and saves a lot of time having to travel to Letterkeny. The Inishowen Hospice also does a lot of work behind the scenes, helping people at home and providing transport to hospitals and clinics.”

They continued: “We also feel privileged to be able to help Moville Tidy Towns, which does so much for the town and surrounding areas.”

“They have a very small committee, and we’re sure they would welcome more volunteers, but with what they have, they do a pretty good job.”

Martha and John are already hoping to raise more vital funds when they illuminate their home for charity next Christmas.

“Once again, we thank you for all the support we get, and hopefully, we will be able to do something similar next year.”
