The Simpson family from Carndonagh has gained approval to develop a new family-oriented leisure venue in Belfast, similar to their hugely popular Derry venture, Brunswick Moviebowl.

MK5 Ltd, led by Patrick and Edmund Simpson, will deliver the £3 million project on a site between Boucher Road and Windsor Park stadium in the south-west of the city.

The proposed development will transform an existing building into a multi-use entertainment complex featuring a bowling alley, restaurant, indoor golf, children’s soft play area, VR zone and amusements.

Approval for the development was granted at the January meeting of the Belfast City Council’s Planning Committee, and the venture is expected to create around 50 jobs.

A quick turnaround target has already been set by the company, which has committed to completing the scheme within nine months to a year of permission being granted.

The Simpson brothers have a strong track record in the leisure and hospitality sectors, with interests including Belfast hotels The Lansdowne and Benedicts, as well as Foyleside Shopping Centre, which has been transformed in recent years.

Last year, the family sold Da Vinci’s Hotel in Derry to the owners of the Ebrington Hotel, a year after acquiring the property.
