Planning permission granted to retain portacabin at Cockhill Community Pre-School

An Early Years pre-school facility in Cockhill has been granted planning permission to retain its existing classroom portacabin.

Rosie Hegarty, of Cockhill Community Pre-School, has been granted permission to retain the previously approved and constructed portacabin that serves as an essential classroom at the popular childcare facility.

The community-based pre-school celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, marking two decades at the heart of local life in Clonbeg. Generations of children have passed through its doors, and the extra classroom has played a key role in accommodating young learners.

The decision by Donegal County Council to grant planning permission ensures the much loved pre school can continue operating with the additional space.

However, the green light comes with eight strict conditions. In the interests of traffic safety, the council has ordered that 90-metre visibility splays be put in place at the entrance to ensure clear sightlines for drivers.

Flood prevention was also another condition addressed by the planning authority. They ruled that no surface water from the site can flow onto the public road, and equally, road water must not discharge onto the site.

The council also outlined requirements regarding signage at the premises. Any signage must be in Irish only, or if bilingual, Irish must appear first and be at least as prominent as any other language.

In addition, the opening times of the portacabin for Cockhill Community Pre-School are confined to 9.30am to 12.30pm, Monday to Friday, with no activity allowed outside those hours, or on Sundays and public holidays.
