Women from across the Culdaff community gathered on Sunday, March 8, for a special event to mark International Women’s Day, celebrating local history, community spirit and future initiatives in the area.

The morning began with a scenic walk to Dunmore Head, where participants enjoyed the coastal surroundings while learning about the area’s rich past.

Culdaff historian Sean Beattie delivered a fascinating talk highlighting the stories of notable women from the region and their important contributions to local history.

Following the walk, the group returned to the Wee Hall in Culdaff, where they shared lunch and continued the morning’s discussions in a relaxed setting.

Attendees also heard about a number of environmental initiatives currently being developed through Eco Culdaff, which aims to promote sustainability and environmental awareness within the community.

An update was also provided on a new local wellbeing programme, outlining upcoming plans designed to support health, connection and positive engagement across the area.

Organisers described the gathering as a warm and meaningful way to celebrate community, reflect on local history and recognise the inspiring women who have shaped both the past and present of Inishowen.

The event was funded through the PEACEPLUS programme ‘Inishowen is Ours’, delivered through the Special EU Programmes Body and Donegal County Council, and facilitated by the Inishowen Development Partnership.
