Free photography walk to showcase Buncrana’s scenic shoreline

The photography event will take place on Saturday, April 4th, and will begin at the Castle Bridge in Buncrana.

Residents and visitors are being invited to experience the natural beauty of Buncrana through a relaxed and engaging photography walk this spring.

The Buncrana Shore Path walk forms part of the Guided Walk Series 2026, organised by Active Inishowen. The event offers beginners a chance to learn simple photography techniques while enjoying a stroll along the coast.

The free event will take place on Saturday, April 4th, running from 6pm to 8pm, and will begin at Castle Bridge near O’Doherty’s Keep. Participants can expect a friendly, informal atmosphere as they explore the shoreline and pick up practical tips to improve their photography skills.

Whether participants are complete beginners using a smartphone or hobbyists with a DSLR or mirrorless camera, the walk is designed to help everyone see the Inishowen coastline through a new lens.

Led by a qualified and experienced guide, the journey will cover less than 5km, with the pace shaped by how much time is spent walking versus stopping to capture photographs.

The walk is part of the wider Active Inishowen Project, a community-driven initiative aimed at increasing participation in walking and cycling across the Inishowen peninsula. The project is led by the Inishowen Development Partnership (IDP), in collaboration with the Donegal Sports Partnership, and is funded through the Dormant Accounts Fund.

Working closely with local communities, the initiative focuses on improving access to outdoor recreation, developing new walking and cycling opportunities, and supporting people of all ages and abilities to lead more active lifestyles.

The Buncrana event reflects these aims, offering an inclusive and social way to get outdoors, learn new skills, and connect with others in a welcoming environment.
