“The people who carried this out should be ashamed of themselves; They should be dealt with”

Outrage has been expressed following the shocking discovery of a young pup, which had been drowned inside the disabled toilets at Moville Shorefront.

The disturbing incident occurred approximately ten days ago at the public toilet facility, which is operated by Donegal County Council.

The dead animal was discovered by a Council caretaker while carrying out his duties at the toilets.

Moville-based County Councillor Martin Farren has condemned what he described as an “incredibly cruel and callous act” and has appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

“It’s very difficult to hear, and very sad to think that someone would do such a thing. It’s quite unbelievable in this day and age,” Councillor Farren said.

“I’ve been in the Council now for 17 years, and I don’t think I’ve ever come up against anything as cruel as this.”

He said he was particularly shocked that someone could carry out such an act in a public facility.

“I’m very surprised that anyone would do such a callous thing,” he said. “I’ve never encountered something like this before.”

Councillor Farren said he had spoken to the caretaker responsible for the toilets, who told him that the incident had happened approximately ten days previously.

He praised the caretaker for the professional and sensitive manner in which he dealt with what was an extremely upsetting discovery.

“It was a very upsetting thing,” Councillor Farren said. “That’s the last thing the caretaker of the toilets expected to find.”

He said the caretaker had been faced with a very difficult situation and had dealt with it in the best way possible, including removing the dead pup from the facility.

“I want to thank the Council caretaker for removing the pup and dealing with a very difficult situation,” he added.

Councillor Farren has now appealed to members of the public who may have information about what happened to contact the Gardaí.

“The people who carried this out should be ashamed of themselves,” he said.

“Anyone from the public who knows anything, please get in touch with the local Gardaí. They should be dealt with.”

He urged anyone who may have witnessed something suspicious around the Shorefront or who has any information relating to the incident to come forward.

“Please do your public duty and get in touch with the local Gardaí if you have any information about this,” he said.

“It’s important that those behind this shocking incident are brought to justice.”

He added that nobody would want to see an incident of this nature happening anywhere ever again.
