Culdaff to celebrate St. Boden’s Day

Culdaff Village Green will host a day of kayaking, crafts, storytelling and local traditions honouring the area's patron saint.
Inishowen residents are invited to come together to celebrate local heritage, folklore, and community spirit at the St. Boden's Day Celebration, taking place at Culdaff Village Green on Wednesday, July 22.
The free, family-friendly event offers an afternoon and evening of activities for all ages, providing an opportunity to discover more about one of Inishowen's most significant early Christian saints.
St. Boden has a long and important association with Culdaff. He is traditionally regarded as the founder of the local church and is closely linked to St. Boden's Well, a historic holy well situated near the village.
For generations, the well has been a place of pilgrimage and reflection, with local traditions and stories preserving the saint's legacy. His feast day continues to be marked as a celebration of Culdaff's rich cultural and spiritual heritage, making the annual event an opportunity not only to enjoy community activities but also to reconnect with the area's history and traditions.
The day's programme begins at 1pm with kayaking on the Culdaff River for adults aged 18 and over. From 4pm, families can take part in a creative craft workshop before gathering at 6.30pm for a community flag raising accompanied by light refreshments. The celebration concludes from 7pm to 9pm with traditional storytelling followed by a visit to St. Boden's Well, where participants can learn more about the saint, the folklore surrounding the site and its enduring significance to the local community.
Organisers are encouraging people to attend for one activity or stay and enjoy the full programme. Attendance is free, but booking is requested by calling 074 9362218, or by emailing [email protected].
The St. Boden's Day Celebration is organised in collaboration with the Eco Culdaff Network and is supported by the Inishowen Development Partnership.
The event promises to be a memorable day of fun, heritage and community, celebrating both the people of Culdaff and the legacy of St. Boden.
