Inishowen TidyTowns groups celebrate success as communities improve scores. Moville secures a Gold Medal and Malin takes Silver as several local towns record impressive point increases

Buncrana’s success at the 2026 SuperValu TidyTowns awards was accompanied by further celebrations across Inishowen, with communities throughout the peninsula recording strong results for their efforts to improve their towns and villages.

Moville secured a Gold Medal after increasing its score to 400 points, up from 386 last year, while Malin received a Silver Medal with 398 points, also improving from 386.

Malin has a proud history in the competition, having previously claimed the overall national title in 1970 and 1991.

Buncrana Tidy Towns chairperson Rena Donaghey congratulated both communities and all the participating towns, highlighting the importance of community involvement beyond the awards themselves.

“I want to congratulate Malin, Moville, and all of the other towns who, even if they didn't win this time around, I want to congratulate them for the work they do because it's not all about winning,” she said.

“It's having your place clean, tidy and lovely for the people who live there and for the visitors as well. So, well done to everybody who participated in this competition.”

Several other Inishowen communities also recorded improvements in their scores this year.

Clonmany Tidy Towns increased its score by 13 points to reach 338, while Culdaff improved by 12 points to achieve 347.

Muff also made progress, increasing its score from 279 to 289 points.

Carndonagh recorded 360 points, while Newtowncunningham maintained its score of 308, matching last year's result.

The results highlight the continued work being carried out by volunteers and residents across the peninsula to improve local environments, protect community spaces and make their towns more welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

With Buncrana crowned Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town, alongside medals and improved scores elsewhere, 2026 has proved a positive year for TidyTowns communities across Inishowen.
