The Carrigan Tidy Towns committee have voiced their displeasure after their street pump, which cost €1,000, was vandalised on Friday night.

They believe the planter box was dislodged by a vehicle and will report the matter to An Garda Siochana and are appealing for witnesses to assist in the investigation.

“Our pump street memorial was vandalised last night,” they posted. “Planter box (extremely heavy) was pushed (had to be by vehicle) down against the historic pump, snapping the cast iron arm and breaking the planter box.

“The pump and box cost tidy towns €1,000 - that's money donated by locals through sponsor lines. We will be reporting to the Garda Síochána. If anyone has information, please report directly to Robbie in the Garda station in confidence. We can't let hard work and hard-earned donations be trampled on like this.”
