Moville Tidy Towns picked up a bronze medal for the third year  in a row at the national Tidy Towns awards in October

The Moville Tidy Towns committee is seeking ideas from the community as it plans a bid for climate action funding.

The committee picked up a bronze medal for the third year running at the Supervalu Tidy Towns Awards in October and now wants ideas from the community on what uses the funding could be put towards.

The objective of the 100%  community climate action funding is to build low-carbon, sustainable communities, which will, in turn, contribute to the national climate and energy targets. The funding ranges from €20,000 to €100,000 depending on the project type and size.

The funding programme comes under the themes of community and energy - LED community lighting, small renewable energy projects (solar/hydro/wind), rainwater harvesting, retrofitting community buildings (windows and doors, insulation, LED lighting, heat pumps); sustainable travel - improving cycleway access, safe and active routes to schools, eCargo bikes, bike repair hubs; food and waste - community composting facilities, community gardens and allotments, community fridges; shopping and recycling - swap shops, water filling stations, single-use plastics elimination, musical instrument reuse, paint recycling, toy library; and local climate and environmental action - climate resilience measures to reduce harmful effects of extreme climate events such as planted mounds to slow flood water, constructed stormwater wetlands, mini forests, dispersed orchards and fruit trees, community gardens, roof gardens and pollinator projects.

The funding will open on December 29, 2023. Further information is available on the Donegal County Council's website and at an information evening on January 23 from 7pm to 8pm at the Carndonagh public service centre, Eircode F93YV1N.

Any suggestions for the funding can be emailed to movilletidytowns@gmail.com.
