Dog owners have been called upon to keep their pets under control after a report of another dog attack on the Muff greenway.
According to a report on social media, a man was bitten by a Labrador dog on the greenway over the weekend.
The garda press office said it has no record of an incident involving a dog in the area at the weekend.
The reported attack follows an incident in June when a man in his 20s required hospital treatment after being attacked by a Rottweiler while out jogging between Muff and Quigley’s Point on the greenway.
Local councillor Terry Crossan said he was only aware of the latest incident through the social media post.
The councillor said that if a dog has the potential to harm or bite somebody, owners should follow the regulations to keep them under control, but he would not call for a complete ban on dogs from the popular greenway.
He said he hopes to have signage erected as soon as possible to advise owners of how to look after dogs on the greenway.
“I wouldn’t advocate for dogs to be banned from the greenway,” says Cllr Crossan.
“I would, however, say that all dogs, no matter big or small, should be under control.
“This might mean keeping dogs on leads while in public spaces.”
