Evan Craig who passed away at the age of 24
Naomh Padraig GAA club has paid tribute to senior player Evan Craig who passed away on Sunday.
The 24-year-old, who had been fighting cancer for some time, began his playing career at underage level with the club.
The GAA club posted on social media: “We as a club are devastated this evening to hear of the sad passing of our much loved and respected senior player Evan Craig.”
“We are heartbroken for Evan’s parents Joe and Grace, sisters Ciara and Orla and girlfriend Cloda, brother in law Darragh, nieces Ellie and Anna and all the family.”
As a mark of respect the club have suspended all further activities until further notice.
Other tributes have been paid by Redcastle United Football Club and musicians The High Flying Paddies.
Redcastle United put out the following post on Facebook “It is with great sadness that we have learnt this evening of the passing of Evan Craig.
“Evan spent many great years at Redcastle Football Club evolving through our underage teams, and was renowned for his speed and agility.
“As a club we would like to pass on our sincere condolences to his parents Grace and Joe, his sisters Ciara and Orla, girlfriend Cloda and his brother in law Darragh McConway and his two nieces Ellie and Anna.”
Musicians The High Flying Paddies also posted their condolences.
“ We are heartbroken.
“Evan was a massive fan of the band, from the gigs, to the afterparties, the celtic matches, Evan was there from day one and never missed.
“We will miss you Evan, a gentleman and a legend.”
“Our condolences to Joe, Grace, Ciara, Orla, Cloda, Darragh and the extended family along with Evan’s great circle of friends.
“Evan, you’ll never walk alone.”
Centra Muff was devastated to hear of Evan’s passing.
“We’d like to extend our deepest sympathies to Joe, Grace, Ciara and Orla, to his wider family and many friends.
“We will close for the duration of the funeral mass on Wednesday 3-4pm to allow staff members to attend. We appreciate your understanding.”
He is survived by his parents Grace and Joe, sisters Ciara and Orla, his grandmother Annie McColgan and his nieces Ellie and Anna as well as his girlfriend Cloda.
He will be sadly missed by all his aunties, uncles, cousins, and his friends.
Evan’s body is reposing at his home where everyone is welcome to pay their respects.
Funeral from there on Wednesday afternoon, September 11th at 2:15pm for 3pm funeral mass in Sacred Heart Church Muff followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard.
