Donegal woman thanks ‘lovely lady’ for finding missing sentimental ring

The missing eternity ring that was found after five weeks

A Donegal woman has expressed her gratitude after being reunited with a sentimental ring that was lost for five weeks.

Bernie Kelly, from Kerrykeel, put out an appeal on Facebook through the Letterkenny Babies page after her mother-in-law Jacqueline, lost her gold eternity ring.

After five weeks, a lady contacted Bernie after finding a ring that matched the photo of Jacqueline’s. To Bernie’s amazement, the ring was in fact Jacqueline’s, and the story behind its discovery was even more astonishing.

Bernie shared: “This is a big shoutout to a lovely lady who reached out to me on Messenger on Facebook. The story starts, five weeks ago, I reached out to Letterkenny Babies for my mother-in-law Jackie, who lost her beautiful sentimental ring. With the power of the internet, this ring was reunited with Jackie.

“A lovely, trustworthy, honest lady by the name of Ita Buchanan from Muff in Donegal.

She got a pair of gloves as a Christmas present. She tried on her new gloves and felt something inside and thought it was a security tag, only to find the ring inside. She went out of her way to find me on Facebook and showed me a picture of it and we cannot believe it. It was the ring.

“What a beautiful story and this sends out a message to thank Letterkenny Babies Facebook and last but not least, Ita, you are a remarkable lady thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Bernie is the widow of renowned rally driver, businessman and Fianna Fáil politician, Manus ‘Mandy’ Kelly. From Glenswilly, Manus Kelly won the Donegal International Rally three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018.

Jacqueline is the wife of Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly Sr, who was initially co-opted into Donegal County Council in November 2019, following the sad passing of his son Manus. The seat was, in turn, passed onto Donal Jnr in 2020, the incumbent councillor who topped the polls in the Letterkenny-Milford MD area in 2024.
