The HSE has confirmed that progress is being made to secure additional primary care accommodation in the Milford area
Cllr Declan Meehan has welcomed confirmation from the HSE that progress is being made to secure additional primary care accommodation in the Milford area.
This includes space within the same building for Older Persons Day Services and physiotherapy.
Since his election last year, Cllr Meehan has consistently raised the lack of adequate primary care accommodation in the Milford Electoral Area through the Regional Health Forum, highlighting the growing pressure on local health services and the need to better support the community.
There is a clear and ongoing demand for additional primary care space to accommodate essential services such as speech and language therapy, dietetics, mental health supports, public health nurses and other community-based health professionals. At present, the absence of sufficient accommodation has limited the ability of the HSE to expand or fully deliver these services locally in a way and place where people can easily access them.
Cllr Meehan also stressed the importance of restoring Older Persons Day Services to the area, noting that these services have been absent from the locality for a number of years, leaving a significant gap for older residents and their families.
“I am very pleased to see movement from the HSE on this long-standing issue,” Cllr Meehan said. “Since my election, I have consistently raised the urgent need for additional primary care space in Milford, as well as the return of Older Persons Day Services and suitable accommodation for physiotherapy. These services are vital for the health, wellbeing and independence of people in our community.”

In a recent response to Cllr Meehan, Dermot Monaghan from the HSE confirmed that it will be seeking expressions of interest for suitable lease accommodation in the coming weeks. This process will then be followed by a formal tendering procedure.
“This is a positive and welcome step forward,” Cllr Meehan added. “While there is still work to be done, the confirmation that the HSE is actively progressing this process is encouraging. I will continue to engage through the Regional Health Forum and directly with the HSE to ensure that the Milford Electoral Area secures the primary care, physiotherapy and older persons day services that the area so clearly needs.”
Cllr Meehan concluded by reaffirming his commitment to advocating for improved healthcare infrastructure and services for Milford and the wider area.
