Five new social homes have been approved in Rathmullan.
The project, which consists of 2 x 1-beds, 2 x 2-beds and 1 x 3-bed units, will be constructed at Cosan na nIarlaí. The planning was granted under Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001.
“This is a step in the right direction and acknowledges the need for more social homes in the area,” Cllr Pauric McGarvey said. “Parking has been highlighted as an issue and with working with the capital team, we have now accommodated 12 new spaces for the new and existing development.
“I would like to thank the housing capital team for their support in getting this development to this stage and looking forward to working to get them delivered for the town.”

Currently, there are nine on the waiting list in Rathmullan. Once funding has been obtained and construction has commenced, the need will be reduced to four.
“This is another important step to meeting housing needs in the Milford Electoral Area, where there are over 230+ families and individuals on the housing waiting list," Cllr Declan Meehan said. "The lead in time for these projects is significant, so we need as many of these projects to progress as possible to meet the growing need for housing.
"This will go some way to meet existing need in Rathmullan, but we need more ambitious projects in other towns like Milford, Carrigart, Kilmacrennan and Ramelton, where housing need is huge and constantly growing."
