The tree has been described as an 'eyesore' coming over Ramelton Bridge
A fallen tree in the River Lennon in Ramelton will not be removed by Donegal County Council teams.
The tree, described as an “eyesore” by Independent Cllr Pauric McGarvey, fell into the river during a storm in February 2023.
At the March meeting of Letterkenny-Milford MD, Cllr McGarvey asked for the tree’s removal, where it's currently along the wall from the River Lennon on the Mall side. He said he had been contacted by many locals about the issue.
Citing the council response that it would currently be “uneconomic” to remove the tree, Cllr McGarvey said it would take “years” for the tree to decompose and it’s currently “taking away from the view” coming over Ramelton Bridge.
The motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil Cllr Liam Blaney, who urged the council to take “ownership” of the issue.

A written response to the motion reads: “An assessment has been carried out and it has been established that the tree is not causing an obstruction to the flow in the river.
“Considering that in time the tree will naturally disperse and the cost and safety implications of removing the tree, that it would be currently uneconomic to remove the tree.”
