The traffic is causing a ‘major knock-on effect’, leading to delays in the service

A school bus service faced school-run delays following congested traffic in Letterkenny this morning.

McGettigan’s Travel, a family-run bus company, described the current state of Letterkenny as ‘an absolute nightmare’, saying that delays due to the congested state of the town, with the schools having returned, are now leading to knock-ons to their service throughout the day.

The bus company shared their frustration on Facebook, saying, “Unfortunately, we are once again dealing with severely congested traffic throughout Letterkenny this morning, which is having a major knock-on effect across all of our school bus services.

“The current road planning, ongoing works and traffic management around the town have become an absolute nightmare, particularly during peak school and work times. What should be straightforward journeys are being met with significant congestion on a daily basis, making it increasingly difficult for our drivers to keep to scheduled times.

“When one bus is delayed in traffic, it unfortunately has a knock-on effect on the runs that follow. We apologise profusely to all parents, guardians and pupils affected. Our drivers are doing everything possible to get everyone to school as quickly and safely as they can, but unfortunately these traffic conditions are completely outside of our control.

“We fully understand how frustrating the delays are; we are just as frustrated. Thank you, as always, for your patience and understanding.”
