Ongoing works at Lifford Community Hospital will provide children’s disability services, it has been confirmed.

The works will provide upgraded accommodation for the Donegal Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT).

The news was confirmed by several local politicians in response to rumours that the works were going towards building an IPAS centre.

Cllr Gary Doherty of Lifford-Stranorlar MD said the rumours were “completely and utterly” false.

“These works are to provide a much needed space for our Donegal CDNT,” he shared. “A bigger project for the new Lifford Hospital is being progressed to the detailed design stage by HSE Estates with construction to hopefully begin in 2026.

“I have raised concerns regarding other works that are ongoing regarding fire safety at the Regional Health Forum and will continue to do so until that is resolved and all staff are back in their positions.

“These false reports follow other false reporting about the new housing estate at Gallow's Lane. Facts matter, not unfounded rumours.”

Cllr Dakota McMenamin, also of Lifford-Stranorlar MD, posted: “Please don't fall for the same rumours that went out by the same people about the housing in Lifford, Convoy etc. It's not going to be an IPAS centre, it's owned by HSE and will provide much needed space for CDNT. Some folk just love to scaremonger!”

“The centre is not being prepared for use by IPAS,” said Pat the Cope Gallagher TD. “It is being developed specifically to support children’s disability services.

“This will bring services - currently spread across surrounding towns - together under one roof, ensuring better access and support for children and families in East Donegal.”

Mr Gallagher welcomed the decision, noting the benefits this investment will bring to families and the wider community.
