The Kilcar community has been plunged into sadness following the death of 22-year-old Eric Byrne.

It followed news on Saturday that a search operation was underway for Eric in the Lavey Lake area of Cavan.

The alarm was raised following an incident at Lavey Lake in the early hours of Saturday, and gardaí issued a missing person appeal.

A full scale search had been due to get underway at 9am on Sunday morning. Lavey GAA Club had been asked to assist, and had called on members to meet at the Lavey Inn.

It is understood that a number of people from Kilcar were en route to Cavan to assist with the search. The tragic news that Eric’s remains had been found came through at around 7.30am.

Gardaí thanked the public for their assistance.

Eric had been living in Cavan but was from Roxborough, Kilcar. He is survived by his parents Paul and Rose, and his brother Cian, as well as a wide circle of extended family and friends.
