Garda road safety day of action underway across the county

Checkpoints are in place throughout the county

A Garda road safety Day of Action is currently underway in Counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

An Garda Síochána is urging all road-users to stay safe this Bank Holiday Weekend. Today’s operation will consist of high visibility rolling checkpoints and patrols in Donegal from 9am to 9pm. The operation is led by the Roads Policing Units based at Carrick On Shannon, Sligo, Donegal Town, Letterkenny and Buncrana Garda Stations.

The operation will focus on 4 key lifesaving aspects, driving under the influence, speed, people who are not wearing seat belts and people who are using their mobile phones.

Gardaí say the overall objective of today’s operation is to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury collisions and to keep people safe as they take to the roads this weekend.
