Public are invited to come along to the Picnic Against Apartheid in Letterkenny on Saturday, September 16
The Letterkenny Amnesty group is holding a Picnic Against Apartheid in Letterkenny on Saturday, September 16 outside An Grianán Theatre at 2. 30pm and has issued an open invitation to everyone to come along and join in.
“Palestinians are often forced out of public spaces by Israeli authorities, just because of who they are, and are not always allowed to enjoy simple everyday events. Where Palestinian people can live, how and where they travel, access to food, farmland and water are all very deliberately controlled by the Israeli government.
"Last year Amnesty published a report which described the system of oppression under which Palestinian people live as a form of apartheid. Our picnic is a very simple way of showing solidarity with the people of Palestine.
“So bring your picnic and a blanket. Enjoy some music and Palestinian desserts. Listen to our speakers, including Majida Alaskery, originally from Palestine and living now in Buncrana and hear about what it is like to live under this system of apartheid,” said a spokesperson for the organisers.
