UPDATE: Fire services arrive in Dunfanaghy to help with flooding

Fire services in Dunfanaghy

The fire services have been called and are understood to be making their way to an estate in Dunfanaghy which has flooded.

The people of Port Dale estate are extremely upset and concerned as a result of flooding, a local councillor has said.

Michael McClafferty said he has raised the issue of flooding on this estate a number of times at meetings adding that events today signify how dangerous the situation can become, he said.

"This is not the first time this area has flooded. As a result of flooding today, children are unable to get to school and people are unable to get out of their homes," he said.

Cllr McClafferty said that people on the estate who are medically dependent cannot leave their home.

"The fire brigade are on their way to try and get the water pumped away and clear the way and allow safe access," he said.

Mr McClafferty said his major concern at the moment is that an ESB mini-piller - the main power supply for the estate as water is rising around it.

This matter will be raised at the Glenties Municipal District on Tuesday, November 14, in Dungloe.

Cllr McClafferty has called for a flooding management plan to be drawn up and executed in the county. He said drains and pipes need to be cleaned regularly.

It is not long since businesses in Dunfanaghy were adversely impacted by flooding with water flowing into units on the main street.
