Deaths in Donegal, Tuesday moring, March 12, 2024

The following deaths have taken place: 

- Moira Greene, Donegal Town and Glasgow

- John Maher, Laghey and Westmeath

- Kathleen Hewitt, Porthall

- Paddy Kerr, Clonmany

- Davy Robb, Newtowncunningham

- Christine Ellis, Lifford and Westmeath

- Greta Gillespie, Convoy

- Marjorie Kelly, Carndonagh

Moira Greene, Donegal Town and Glasgow

The death has occurred of Moira Greene, née Greene, Donegal Town and formerly Glasgow.

Beloved wife of the late Patrick Greene; much loved daughter of the late Maurice and Madge Greene; sister of John and the late Norah. Sadly missed by all her relatives neighbours and friends.

Her remains will repose at Tir Chonaill Funeral Home, Donegal Town, on Tuesday from 2pm to 7.45pm, followed by removal to St Patrick's Church, Donegal Town, arriving at 8pm.

Funeral Mass on Wednesday morning at 11.30am. Cremation will take place in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan, on Thursday at 3pm.

John Maher, Laghey and Westmeath

The death has occurred of John Maher, Walshestown, Mullingar, Co Westmeath and Laghey.He passed away in the company of his loving family following a brief illness at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.

A dearly loved partner, son and brother, John will be very sadly missed and forever remembered by his heartbroken family, his partner and best friend Catriona (Doherty), his parents Martin and Geraldine, brother Alan and sister Susan, extended family and the Doherty family, his many friends and clubmates in Shandonagh GAA Mullingar and Naoimh Bríd GAA Laghey.

His remains are reposing at Gilsenan’s Funeral Home Mullingar (N91 K660) on Wednesday from 4pm to 6.30pm followed by Removal to the Church of the Assumption Walshestown arriving at 7pm. House strictly private please.

John’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11am followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Family flowers only please; donations, if desired, to Beaumont Hospital Foundation or Friends of Sligo Hospital.

Kathleen Hewitt, Porthall

The death has taken place at her home of Kathleen Hewitt, née Lynch, 12 Hollybush Park, Porthall, Lifford and formerly of Mullinagung, Lifford. Beloved wife of the late William, much loved mother of Dessie and the late William and sister of Colum and the late Bert.

Her remains are reposing at her home. Family time please from 11pm to 11am.

Funeral leaving her home on Wednesday at 10.20am for Requiem Mass in St Patrick's Church, Murlog, Lifford at 11am. Interment will take place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.  The Requiem Mass can be viewed live via the Parish Webcam. https://clonleighparish.com/webcam-watch-live/

Paddy Kerr, Clonmany

The death has taken place at Letterkenny University Hospital of Paddy Kerr Ceol Na Mara, Crossconnell, Clonmany.

Husband of the late Maureen, loving father of, Patrick, Philip, and Ann, father in law of Sarah, Allison, and Derek, devoted grandad of Amy, Aidan, Adam, Jude, and Kayleigh, and his wider family circle.

His remains are reposing at St Columbcille Village oratory, Clonmany F93N5DV to repose on Tuesday from 12 noon with removal from there at 8pm to St Mary's Church, Clonmany to repose overnight.

Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 11am, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Funeral Mass can be viewed live on www.churchservices.tv/clonmany

Davy Robb, Newtowncunningham

The peaceful death has taken place at Letterkenny University Hospital of Davy Robb, Main Street, Newtowncunningham F93 A3YH.

Deeply missed by his loving sons and daughters Janette Murray and husband Brian (Letterkenny), Kevin and wife Moya (Moville), Marie Wilson and husband Adrian (Burt), Brenda Devlin and husband Joe (Clonmany) and Dominic and Wife Annette (Newtowncunningham), grandchildren Dean, Karl, Laura, Aoife, Eimear and Jane, great-grandchildren Luke, Finn, Kayla, Davin, Ruby, Tiarnán, Ryan and Isla, sister Angela Buckley (Newtowncunningham), nieces, nephews and a wide circle of family, friends and neighbours. Davy is predeceased by his wife Margaret and grandson Mark Cullen.

His remains will repose at his late residence from 11am on Tuesday with Rosary at 9pm. Family time on the morning of the funeral please.

Funeral from there on Wednesday at 10.30am going to All Saints Church Newtowncunningham for 11am Requiem Mass which can be viewed live on www.churchservices.tv/newtowncunningham Interment will take place afterwards in the adjoining cemeter

Christine Ellis, Lifford and Westmeath

The peaceful death has occurred of retired teacher, Christine Ellis, née Gallagher, of Retreat Heights, Athlone, Westmeath and formerly of Ballindrait, Lifford.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Conleth and her son Ciaran, and by her brothers Patrick, Seamus, Vincent and Raymond, she will be sadly missed by her children Carol, Mark and Jennifer, sisters Brigid and Gracie, grandchildren Aoife, Cian, Emmet, Liam, Sinead, Aislinn, Ciara, Eva, Connal, Ruadhan, and Laoise, sons-in-law Kevin and Ronan, daughters-in-law Daphne and Louise, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Her remains reposed last evening at Flynn's Funeral Home, The Strand, N37 WY17. House private please.

Requiem Mass on Tuesday at 10.30am in St Mary’s Church, Athlone, followed by burial in Coosan Cemetery.

Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu to chosen charity CRY Ireland.

Greta Gillespie, Convoy

The death has taken place of Greta Gillespie, Ballyboe, Convoy F93CX5V. She passed away peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff of Brindley Manor Nursing Home.

Predeceased by her husband Willy John, son David and daughter Elaine; deeply regretted and lovingly remembered by her daughter Beatrice and son Kenneth, sons-in-law Alfie and Leslie and daughter-in-law Olive. Cherished grandmother of Rodney, Derek, Emma, Lesley Ann, Louise, Rachel, Jonathan, Gary, Julie and Leah and also her thirteen great-grandchildren, wider family circle and friends.

Her remains are reposing at her late residence. Family time please on the morning of the funeral. 

Funeral leaving from there on Tuesday at 1.30pm for 2pm Service of Thanksgiving in St Ninian’s Church, Convoy followed by burial in the family plot in the adjoining graveyard.

Family flowers only, donations in lieu to Brindley Manor Nursing Home and St Ninian’s Church, care of any family member or Terence McClintock funeral director.

Marjorie Kelly, Carndonagh

The death has occurred at Altnagelvin Hospital of Marjorie Kelly (nee McElhinney), Churchtown, Carndonagh.

Beloved wife of Laurence; much loved mother of Laura and Joseph; dear mother-in-law of Linda and Brian McCauley; loving grandmother of Holly, Joshua and Aaliyah and dear sister of Joe McElhinney, Church Brae, Fahan. Deeply mourned and will be forever missed by her loving husband, son, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, brother, her extended family, friends and neighbours.

Marjorie's remains are reposing at the family home where you are welcome to pay your respects. Family time please from 11pm to 11am.

Removal on Tuesday at 10.15am to Sacred Heart Church, Carndonagh, for Requiem Mass at 11am followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard.
