For safety and aesthetic reasons, businesses are asked not to place advertising posters at roundabouts.
And politicians have also been reminded to keep roundabouts free of election posters.
Area Roads Officer for the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal Mark Sweeney raised the matter at the March meeting of the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal.
He said: “Tidy Towns judges will be around at some stage and we do get marks for approach roads.
“There is no need for half the signs that we are seeing along the roads. None of them have consent to be there.”
Mr Sweeney also pointed out that signs on footpaths are interfering with accessibility.
“People in buggies and in wheelchairs can’t get past,” he said. “I ask businesses to be mindful of other footpath users.”
The roads officer also had a stern message for candidates ahead of the local and European elections taking place this June.
“I don’t want to see any posters on roundabouts,” he warned.
“It is hard enough to get round a roundabout without election posters.
“And I would ask the people who put up the referendum posters to take them down and don’t forget to take the cable ties with you.”
