Donegal Yarns in Kilcar opened their doors to suppliers and customers on Thursday with around 100 attending.
The guests were taken in small groups to view the workings of the factory from the introduction of the raw material (wool) until the finished yarn product.
Donegal Yarns took over the factory from Udarás na Gaeltacht in 2006, when it looked like the business and the skills were going to be lost, and as Managing Director, Martin Buckley, told those present they were "an overnight success after 18 years".
There was a special welcoming party for all those who attended on Thursday and after a tour of the plant, there were refreshments in Aislann Chill Chartha followed by a discussion forum with many of the wide ranging spin-offs from the yarn industry involved, including Magee of Donegal and Fishermen out of Ireland.
There was a wide range of people involved in the industry invited to the open day and they came from all over Ireland and some from the UK.
