The Bluestack Challenge is set to go ahead, with organisers implementing a safer, revised route due to the impact of the recent bad weather on the terrain of the original route.
Chairperson Liam McCrea said: "Over the last week, we’ve been closely monitoring the weather forecast to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our walkers.
"Unfortunately, the severe weather we've experienced in recent weeks has resulted in significant ground deterioration. We had hoped that in the days leading up to the Challenge conditions would improve, however they've deteriorated further and now pose a significant and unnecessary risk on the open mountain terrain we originally planned to navigate.
"The combination of wind, rain, lower temperatures and underfoot conditions represent significant challenges, and after careful consideration, and expert advice from both Donegal Mountain Rescue and our highly experienced guides, we want to inform you of an important update.
"With your safety and wellbeing as our absolute priority, we have made the decision to switch to an alternative route. While this new route may not include the same rugged open mountain experience, it still offers a wonderful outdoor and rewarding challenge that will make our day very memorable.
"We believe this alternative route allows us to maintain the spirit of our event while ensuring everyone's safe participation. The new route will still provide plenty of opportunities for us to enjoy the outdoors together, and most importantly, continue to raise vital funds for such worthy causes. We appreciate your understanding and support with this regrettable decision.
