An Garda Siochana have warned drivers about the increase in road accidents that typically happen on Bank Holiday weekend.

Bank Holidays usually bring a higher volume of traffic onto the roads and with this comes an increased risk of collisions. An Garda Siochana asks all road users to use the roads responsibly.

The clocks will change on Sunday, October 27, and that means citizens will be facing into the dark evenings and dark mornings. Please remember to wear a high visibility vest if going walking, running or cycling to ensure that drivers can see you clearly.

"Gardaí will be out on the roads over the weekend conducting high visibility checkpoints and speed checks. The last thing that anybody wants is for a tragedy to occur on our roads. Every road user should act responsibly regardless of how they choose to travel and in doing so they will help save lives."
