Tesco has published an application relating to the sale of alcohol at a Donegal Town store, bringing an end to speculation as to whether the retailer is indeed the anchor supermarket at a major development in the town.
With work well underway at the former Picture Mouldings premises - known locally as Timony’s Factory - rumours have been rife for some time that Tesco is the main tenant.
The notice in this week’s Donegal Democrat outlines a number of sale of alcohol regulations under which the applicant,Tesco Ireland Limited, is seeking an order from the district court.
The company, with registered offices at Gresham House, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin outlines its intent to make an application to the District Court sitting at the Courthouse, Bridge Street, Donegal Town, on Monday, January 13. The application is in respect of a premises “comprising a proposed Supermarket store and located at Railway Road, Milltown, Donegal Town, County Donegal in the Court Area and District aforesaid, when constructed by the Applicant, would be fit and convenient to be licensed for the purposes of the sale by retail of Spirits, Beer and Wine for consumption off the premises when so constructed and altered in accordance with plans accompanying this Application and thereon surrounded by a red verge line.”
This development has been on the cards for many years, having been sold in 2007. Plans were lodged by Railway Road Trading Ltd in August 2020, to include:
-demolition of all existing buildings on site
-construction of retail development on site of approximately 2.53 ha.
-the development to comprise an anchor supermarket, including off licence
-eight retail units
-a café/restaurant
-signage
-201 car parking spaces and 33 cycle parking spaces
- a new vehicular access is proposed to Railway Road, including associated road improvements and associated internal access roads.
-service yards, ESB substation, plant for each unit at roof level, landscaped areas, pedestrian facilities, lighting, boundary treatments and all other associated site development and infrastructural works.
The 6,184 square-metre centre was granted planning permission with 27 conditions.
Work began on the site earlier this year.
