Centra Dunfanaghy invests €137,000 in a Greener Future

Dunfanaghy's Centra store has invested €137,000 on sustainability measures to date

Centra Dunfanaghy has made significant sustainability upgrades in its store, by investing €137,000 in sustainable initiatives over the last year.

As part of the store’s commitment to sustainability, Centra Dunfanaghy has invested significantly to incorporate several sustainability upgrades, enhancing energy efficiencies on site. These upgrades include the installation of LED lighting, upgraded fridges and cold rooms, and an Eco Heat Pump, which heats the store’s water supply.

Additionally, the store has upgraded its solar panel system from 40 panels to 100 panels, further reducing its reliance on non-renewable energy sources. Centra Dunfanaghy has also made significant efforts to reduce food waste by introducing a reduced-to-clear section every day.

Centra Dunfanaghy is an active member of the community, supporting local clubs and charities including St Michaels GAA Club, Dunfanaghy Youths Soccer Club, Sheephaven Cliff & Sea Rescue, Creeslough Community Childcare as well as the local schools in the area.

In addition to the investment made by the store, Centra Dunfanaghy received a grant from the Musgrave Sustainability Fund. The €25 million fund, created by Musgrave Group, of which Centra is a part, is aimed at empowering retailers to achieve net zero carbon by 2040. Supported by the fund to date, over 245 Centra stores have availed of the fund which has achieved a reduction of 2,017 tonnes of carbon, which is the equivalent of planting 366,800 trees or powering 1,000 homes per year

In the Republic of Ireland, the Musgrave Sustainability Fund has committed €2O million to sustainability initiatives across its stores. This investment underpins Centra’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon by 2040. Stores across Ireland have implemented select sustainability initiatives based on each store’s needs and set-up, including upgrading freezers and refrigeration units, LED lighting retrofit, solar panels, and electronic shelf edge labels (eSEL).
