Hypothermia is  a condition that occurs when your body's temperature drops below 35 degrees Celsius

Lough Swilly RNLI have warned of the dangers of hypothermia after being contacted by a local woman who stayed in the water longer than normal.

Hypothermia, or low body temperature, is a condition that occurs when your body's temperature drops below 35 degrees Celsius.

"The experienced dipper got in trouble as she tried to locate her partner on the shore," Lough Swilly RNLI posted. "She was in a confused state and came ashore in an unfamiliar area, cutting her legs on the rocks and brambles.

"Thankfully, her partner located her, and she quickly received medical attention. We would urge the public to be careful in the sea, especially during this cold snap."
