The late Rose Byrne died in Letterkenny University Hospital on Sunday

The woman who died following a road traffic collision in Buncrana last Tuesday has been named locally as  beloved grandmother Rose Byrne.

Late of Mill Brae in Buncrana, Ms Byrne, who was in her 80s, was seriously injured in the collision and passed away in hospital on Sunday.

Ms Byrne (nee Gallagher) was with a family member when the incident occurred on January 14.

She was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment, but died on Sunday.

The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “Road users who were travelling on Main Street, Buncrana, between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 14th January 2025, are urged to contact Gardaí if they have any information or dash-cam footage.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

Ms Byrne was surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by husband Thomas, children John, Valerie McMackin, Stella Lynch, Dermot and Emer Porter and siblings Adeline Browne, Brendan and Martin Gallagher.

Ms Byrne was predeceased by her loving son Thomas and brothers Jim and Joe Gallagher.

Her funeral arrangements have not yet been confirmed.
