New rector appointed to Stranorlar group of Church of Ireland parishes

A new rector has been appointed to the Stranorlar group of Church of Ireland parishes.

Reverend Johnny Lowden has been confirmed as the new rector of the Stranorlar, Meenglass and Kilteevogue Group of Parishes in the Diocese of Raphoe.

News of his appointment was shared with congregations on Sunday. 

Rev Lowden has been most recently a curate in Glendermott and Newbuildings.

He will succeed Rev Adam Pullen who left in June 2023 to become Rector of Fanlobbus Union in the Diocese of Cork. 

Since then, Rev Canon Mervyn Peoples has been providing vacancy cover.

A native of Bangor, who grew up in Downpatrick, Rev Lowden was ordained in 2021.

Rev Lowden says he is delighted to have been appointed Rector of the Stranorlar Group of parishes and is looking forward to joining the parishioners on their communal pilgrim journey together. A date has yet to be fixed for the Service of Institution.
