Almost €500,00 allocated for improvements to four Donegal piers and harbours

The allocation is part of a €4.33 million package for 57 local authority projects across eleven coastal local authorities announced by Minister of State for Fisheries and the Marine Timmy Dooley

Burtonport harbour has received funding for improvements

Almost half a million euro has been allocated for improvements to four  Donegal piers and harbours.

The allocation of €457,500 under the Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme will see projects undertaken at Burtonport, Greencastle,  Maghery and Inch.

The allocation is part of a €4.33 million package for 57 local authority projects across eleven coastal local authorities announced by Minister of State for Fisheries and the Marine Timmy Dooley.

In Burtonport, €187,500 has been allocated for a quay wall capping beam out of a total project cost of  €300,000.

In Greencastle  €150,000 has been awarded for pier pile repair in a project costing  €200,000 and €15,000 has been granted for the Harbour Masters office project, which has a total cost of €20,000.

In Maghery,  €22,500 has been allocated to the pier steps project which is costing €30,000, and at Inch, €82,500 has been granted for pier crane installation out of a total cost of   €110,000.

Minister of State for Fisheries and the Marine Timmy Dooley has announced the allocation of funding of €4.33 million for 57 local authority projects across eleven coastal local authorities.

The funding will assist the coastal local authorities in the maintenance and development of fishery and aquaculture linked marine infrastructure in their ownership.

Welcoming the announcement, Donegal Minister of State, Charlie McConalogue, said: “This funding will provide an important economic boost to our rural coastal communities, while also helping to make them more attractive to tourists. It’s vital our piers and harbours are constantly upgraded, improved and upgraded and it’s important that this latest capital injection delivers benefits to Donegal’s coastal rural communities.”
