Elderly man and woman hospitalised after car mounts footpath in Buncrana

The incident occurred just before noon on Tuesday close to the Market Square 

Two people aged in their 70s have been taken to hospital after being struck by a car on Buncrana’s Main Street.

The incident occurred just before noon on Tuesday when the grey SUV mounted the footpath close to the Market Square outside the town’s Carraig Donn store and collided with a tree.

The man and woman have been taken to Letterkenny University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 70s, and the driver of another vehicle, a woman in her 70s, have been taken to hospital as a precaution. The fire service, ambulance service and gardaí attended the scene.

The road remained closed on Tuesday afternoon as gardaí carried out an investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 11:45am and 12:00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
