Woman (50s) dies after getting into difficulty swimming at Glencolmcille

The body of the woman was taken from the water at Glencolmcille

A woman has died following a drowning incident in Glencolmcille.

The woman in her 50s was taken from the water just after 7pm on Friday.

Gardai in Killybegs were alerted to the incident with the woman having got into difficulty while swimming.

The woman was airlifted from the water and taken to Sligo University Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

A post-mortem exam will take place, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Investigations are ongoing.
