CLÁR funding has been announced for two volunteer-led services in Donegal.

The CLÁR funding, confirmed by Minister of State Jerry Buttimer TD at the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, along with Minister Dara Calleary, will support community organisations nationwide.

The funding for Drimarone Development CLG will increase capacity to bring South Donegal cancer patients and other residents with mobility needs to clinics and hospitals safely, comfortably and reliably.

The allocation for Donegal Mountain Rescue Team - an all-volunteer service that serves the entire county - will enhance first-responder capability, supporting faster, more effective call-outs when minutes matter.

“This is practical support for people who need it most,” Pat the Cope Gallagher said. “Drimarone’s volunteers help neighbours, especially cancer patients in South Donegal, get to chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other essential hospital appointments on time and with dignity.

Donegal Mountain Rescue’s volunteers provide critical, often life-saving responses county-wide. Today’s CLÁR allocations back that dedication with the resources to do even more. As an avid daily walker, I know only too well the importance of mountain rescue and the reassurance their readiness gives to everyone who enjoys our hills and trails.”

Senator Nikki Bradley said “I am delighted that Donegal is set to benefit directly from this announcement. The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team provides a lifeline for people in difficulty across our county, often in the most challenging of conditions. This new emergency response vehicle will ensure they can continue their lifesaving work with greater capacity and safety.

“This funding recognises the immense dedication of volunteers in Donegal and across the country. Whether it’s search and rescue teams, community first responders, or meals on wheels services, these groups represent the very best of community spirit. Today’s announcement will strengthen their ability to serve and support people when they need it most.”
