4,000 Donegal homes may be without water as crews work to restore supply

Uisce Éireann crews have been working overnight and this morning assessing and restoring water services nationwide following the impact of Storm Amy.

Most of their plants and networks across the country are operating as expected, there has been some disruption however due to heavy rains impacting on raw water quality and or power outages impacting on water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations and other network assets.

The focus is on Donegal and in particular, Inishowen, Lifford, Convoy, Raphoe and Castlefinn where the storm had the greatest impact. It is estimated that 4,000 homes may be without water and crews are working to restore supply as quickly as possible.

Uisce Éireann’s, Regional Operations Manager for the Northwest, Anthony Skeffington said: “Our incident management processes are in place since before the storm hit and crews have mobilised to maintain and restore supplies. Where necessary we have deployed mobile and fixed generators to restore power and restore plants to production.

"In areas where supply has been disrupted, most properties should have adequate storage in their attic tanks for hygiene purposes for at least 24 hours. However, customers are urged to conserve water where possible in order to protect supply while the outages are resolved.”
