Fastway Couriers closure threatens dozens of Donegal jobs

Dozens of jobs in Donegal are under threat after the parent company of Fastway Couriers Ireland entered receivership.

Nuvion Group, a delivery and logistics company, is in receivership with Fastway among its franchises. The group also includes Parcel Connect and Nügo.

Fastway Couriers have a depot in Letterkenny which is understood to employ around half-a-dozen people. Dozens of others, including many who are sole operators and subcontractors in the delivery network, will be affected.

Mark Degnan and Brendan O'Reilly of Interpath Advisory have been appointed as receivers for the company.

Nuvion Group has ceased trading with immediate effect.

An internal email sent to staff by the receivers told employees that they would not be paid beyond now and they are only expected to attend work if requested.

The company has cited inflation, rising operation costs and price pressure in the market, saying they have made the business “no longer viable” in its current form.

Delays and disruption are expected and the receivers say they will work with retailers to “minimise” these delays.

Among the companies affected were CBM Signs in Letterkenny, who sent out orders to Fastway Couriers on Tuesday afternoon.

“When they arrived back at the depot security personal and receivers were there to close Fastway down,” CBM said. “The receivership would not give back our orders back which I personally thought was very bad form.

“I felt sorry for the staff and self employed drivers who had no idea of this closure. One of them had just taken delivery of a brand new van ahead of the Christmas rush.”

CBM say they will appoint a new courtier and it will be “business as usual”
