The proposed new plan for Teach Pobail Mhuire
MacGabhann Architects have revealed their plans for Teach Pobail Mhuire.
St Mary's Church in Derrybeg, Gweedore, was destroyed by a major fire in the early hours of Easter Monday, April 21, and since then the local and wider community has begun fundraising efforts to rebuild it.

MacGabhann Architects, based at Ballaghderg, Letterkenny, have now shared their plans publicly.
They posted: "Our design submission for the new replacement Teach Pobail Mhuire, Doirí Beaga, which sadly burned down in 2025."

Five units of the fire service from across County Donegal attended the scene, along with Gardaí. The church, built in the 1970s, was gutted by the fire, leaving only the scorched octagonal shell and steel support beams. There were no injuries or loss of life reported, as the building was empty at the time.
