Donegal teams feature in inaugural cross-border girls football event 

Cockhill Celtic were the Shield winners at the inaugural North West Charity U12s cross community, cross-border tournament

Teams from Donegal have taken part in the inaugural North West Charity U12s cross community, cross border tournament.

The event promoting girls football in the north-west was held in Magee University Campus on Sunday, November 30.

The tournament not only promotes girls football but all proceeds go towards charities. This year the charities chosen are St Vincent De Paul and Hope Mission Zambia.

Organisers said they have been taken aback with the interest and momentum generated with international footballers from Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland teams supporting the event.

Amber Barrett, Dee Bradley and Tyler Toland from the Republic of Ireland and Julie Nelson, Nadine Caldwell and Naomi McLaughlin from Northern Ireland supporting the initiative.

Ladies teams, Derry City, Sion, Finn Harps, Cockhill Celtic, Tristar, Carndonagh ladies teams also backed the event.

A number of sponsors including Philips Healthcare are providing financial support and helping with charitable donations.

Local businesses supported throughout, such as Crossan’s Jewellers in Buncrana providing all the medals and Trophies, CBM signs doing up banners and others supporting on the local draw to raise funds.

Linfield stars and Republic of Ireland Players, Jodie and Keri Loughrey presented the trophies.

“The players and supporters had an amazing day with Deputy Mayor Niree McMorris, St Vincent De Paul Representative, Neil Barr and Hope Mission Director Gareth Hayes in attendance,” a spokesperson said.
