Fr Meehan journey began in Kilmacrenan in 1962
Respects have been paid following the passing of Fr Seamus Meehan.
Very Rev Fr Meehan, PE, was a retired priest of the Diocese of Raphoe who previously served as the Parish Priest of Templecrone and lived on Main Street in Dungloe.
His ministerial journey began in Kilmacrenan in 1962, followed by a series of appointments that took him through the heart of Donegal, including assignments in Gaoth Dobhair a year later; Edeninfagh, Glenties in 1965; Glenfin in 1967, and Tory Island in 1969.
After further service in Carrigart in 1970, Stranorlar in 1982, and Annagry three years later, Fr Meehan settled into his final post in Dungloe in 1991. He served the Dungloe community for 21 years until his retirement in 2012, marking exactly 50 years since he first answered the call to his first parish. In June 2022, he celebrated the 60th anniversary of his ordination.
“We regret to announce the peaceful death of Fr Seamus Meehan, former Parish Priest of Templecrone Parish,” they posted. “May he Rest in Peace.”

Rev John Joe Duffy CC, a native of Burtonport and based in Creeslough, said: "May Fr Seamus Rest in Peace. One of the most gentle, kind, decent, honourable and most noble of people I have ever known. A solid rock, a calm influence and a man of great wisdom. So sorry to read this news here this morning.
"A sad morning for Dungloe and everyone who knew Fr Meehan. Fr Meehan occupied a special place in the hearts of all who knew him and he was most loved by people. Fr Seamus had time for people. He had a great ability to know his parish and community and its people.
"When you visited him, he was never in a rush. Brown bread was in endless supply with coffee. He had the heart of Christ, the Good Shepherd. He had a wonderful sense of humour. A man of great humility. We were enriched by his presence among us. May God give his gentle soul eternal peace as he goes Home to God."
