A party to celebrate Bridget's 100th took place at Ionad an Chrois Bhealaigh

Bridget Ward celebrated the great distinction of being the first lady on Arranmore island to reach the great milestone of 100 years.

Surrounded by many family members and friends at Ionad an Chrois Bhealaigh, an enjoyable day was had by all.

“There were presentations given to Bridget from various groups and individuals,” Denis O’Donnell, the Arranmore notes contributor, said.

“She didn't want any presents or money. Instead, people could donate the way in, and it would go towards a charity of her choice. Bridget has long been a community person. When she moved back to the island over forty years ago, she and some friends set up a women's group, the ICA, on the island.

“They raised money for various local causes. They organised events. They first set up the community centre. It was a vacant building before that. They helped organise The Rose of Arranmore Festival. On the day of her birthday, there were local musicians performing. The Pipe Band also performed. A special day was enjoyed by all. Happy birthday, Bridget.”

The Dungloe notes were also passing on their best wishes: “The Ward family all came together from various parts of the world for this special occasion. TG4 and Radio na Gaeltachta were present to interview Bridget, who is in excellent health and spoke eloquently about her long life. Congrats to her son, John, who composed a lovely song as a tribute to his mother. We wish Bridget continued good health into the future.”
