While Donegal may have escaped the worst effects of Storm Chandra, around 23,000 premises were hit by power cuts.

Strong winds and blustery showers hit the county in the early hours of Tuesday, January 27.

In Donegal Town, 5,423 homes and businesses are affected, while 2,037 are without power in Glenties and almost 600 in Ballintra. It is expected that supply will get restored relatively quickly.

Meanwhile in the wider Gweedore area, power has been restored to 15,238 premises.

ESB Networks is reminding people of the dangers of storm damage to the electricity network, saying: "Fallen Electricity Wires are live and dangerous. Never approach or touch them. Call our emergency service immediately on 1800 372 999 or (+353 21 2382410)
